What happened
On the morning of 26 Aug 2026, a slab of glacier ice and bedrock ~600 m wide broke off the
north face of Langtang Lirung (≈5.2 to 5.4 km altitude) and fell into the Lhende river valley in
Tibet. The debris flood wiped out the Gyirong Port border crossing in ~7.5 minutes, then ran down the
Bhotekoshi → Trishuli → Narayani for ~10 hours. 1,114+ dead, 3,916 missing in Nepal (as of 1 Sep).
